Safety Guidelines for Lamp Oil & Decorative Oil Lamps

Decorative paraffin oil lamps create a warm and tranquil atmosphere, making them an ideal lighting option for indoor spaces during the night. However, as with any product involving an open flame, strict adherence to safety guidelines is essential to ensure safe and enjoyable use.

Preparation Steps

  • Always read the label carefully and follow the instructions precisely.
  • Choose the appropriate type of lamp oil based on where you’ll be using the lamp. Pair it with the corresponding Candil lamp oil designed for indoor or outdoor use.
  • Remove the glass chimney and unscrew the wick holder from the glass base.
  • To avoid lamp oil spillage, place the lamp base on a flat surface and carefully fill it.
  • Fill approximately 3/4 of the base with lamp oil, screw the wick holder back on, and wait a few minutes for the wick to absorb the oil.
  • Adjust the soaked wick to about 1mm above the holder to keep the flame low and prevent smoking before lighting.
  • When refilling the lamp, it’s recommended to trim the burnt part of the wick with scissors before lighting, for a cleaner burn.

Safety precautions

  • Never use flammable materials, such as kerosene, gasoline, or alcohol, in decorative oil lamps or products marked with Red diamond with a flame icon. Important: Always use lamp oil from approved manufacturers.
  • Avoid any air movement, such as drafts, ceiling fans, nearby heaters, etc., to prevent uneven burning or soot.
  • Keep decorative lamps away from children and pets. Important: A flame easily attracts the attention of both children and pets. It is essential to keep decorative lamp oil lamps away from them to prevent them from touching or knocking them over.
  • Place the decorative lamp oil lamp away from objects that could catch fire.
  • Never leave a lit decorative lamp oil lamp unattended.
  • To properly extinguish the flame, lower the wick sufficiently and carefully blow it out. CAUTION: Since the lamp glass and wick holder may become very hot during use, it is necessary to wait until the lamp cools down before disassembling the components to refill it.
  • Never use water or any other liquid to extinguish the flame of the lamp.
  • Before leaving the area where the lamp has been burning, ensure that it has completely extinguished.
  • After burning a decorative lamp oil lamp, it is advisable to ventilate the room for a while to help renew the air in the space.
  • Store the decorative lamp away from children and pets. A single drop of lamp oil or even sucking on the lamp wick can cause life-threatening pulmonary damage.
  • Never drink lamp oil intended for decorative lamps, storm lamps, or torches.
  • In case of ingestion, immediately seek medical advice or contact the Poison Control Center. Do not induce vomiting.
